London, UK, 12th October 2007 – Leendert de Voogd has been appointed Global Sector Head of TNS’s Political and Social sector, one of the world’s leading providers of political and social research services, with immediate effect.  Based in Brussels, he will be responsible for continuing to drive sector business growth and leveraging the strengths of the expert teams around the world.

Leendert has spent the last four years as Managing Director of TNS opinion, TNS’s Political and Social co-ordination centre which runs the Eurobarometer, a major public opinion tracking service for the European Commission. The Eurobarometer spans 33 countries and addresses major topics concerning Europe.  Leendert has been pivotal in managing TNS’s work with the European Commission and other European Institutions.  Leendert replaces Marita Carballo who has left TNS to pursue her academic and other interests.

Pedro Ros, TNS Managing Director, Global Clients and Sectors, said: “Leendert has an excellent track record as a strong business leader with a deep understanding of the issues that drive our clients' research needs. TNS works with public sector organisations, non-governmental organisations and the news media and I am confident that Leendert will make a success of this challenging role.  I would like to thank Marita for all her enthusiasm and hard work over the last few years, and wish her well for the future. We will all miss working with her.”

Marita Carballo commented on Leendert’s appointment: ”I was very pleased to learn that Leendert has accepted the role. I have every confidence that with his strong drive and his 10 years of experience of international survey co-ordination the Sector will go from strength to strength.”

Marita Carballo will continue to provide support to the sector as a Global Advisor until the end of the year.
