December 10 2007 (London) - The Independent Consultants Group (ICG) announced today that Andy Laing has been appointed as the organisation’s first paid administrator.  Andy was selected from a strong field of 9 applicants.

Chairman of the ICG Andrew Smith comments: “I think it is highly significant that the ICG has reached this crossroads.  To cope with our expanding membership and grow our activities requires us to appoint our first paid administrator – there is only so much that a volunteer committee can take on! This move allows us to undertake a range of exciting projects and signifies the progress that the ICG has made since its inception as a sub-group of the MRS over 5 years ago.  We all feel that Andy will be a huge asset to the ICG.”

Smith continues “The recent growth in ICG membership signals that independents are becoming an increasingly important force in the Research community – and I see that trend continuing.”

Laing has over ten years experience as a senior-level PA and administrator for diverse high profile professional and not for profit organisations. Her key responsibilities have ranged from recruiting for market research to secretarial services, designing and maintaining databases, conference and seminar organisation, servicing boards of Trustees and implementing a range of marketing and administrative programmes.

“Working with the ICG will be an exciting challenge for me, to be part of developing the organisation,” commented Laing. “I’ve worked with market research companies in the past and I’m looking forward to getting a more hands-on perspective for how the ICG works.”

Laing works from her home office in Cambridge and has been virtual working for seven years. As she explains, “The members of the ICG work all over the UK and abroad, and seem to have a strong community ethos despite it being a kind of virtual organisation. That’s a unique balance to have achieved. “

The recently launched web site for the ICG at the new domain name <>  facilitates a virtual network for ICG members.  It also allows web visitors to access a database for finding a consultant with the exact skills and experience needed for a particular brief.
