Double digit revenue growth and unit shipments which are expected to more than double are projected for the open operator terminal segment of the worldwide operator terminals market, which is projected to be the fastest growing between 2005 and 2011. The majority of companies adopting open operator terminals will have used lower level products previously before upgrading in order to get a higher level of flexibility and an operator terminal which is tailored to their application.
Market Analyst Mark Watson comments, “The number of companies manufacturing this product type continues to increase and the level of education amongst potential users is also much higher than it has been previously. The open operator terminal is extremely well positioned to fill the gap between touchscreen operator terminals and industrial PC-based products, with high levels of flexibility and functionality but competitive prices.”

The Asia Pacific region is expected to show the strongest growth for open operator terminals through to 2011. The implementation of large complex applications, in countries such as China and India, requiring open types of software and the installation of a complete solution are having an impact on worldwide open operator terminal growth rates.

EMEA based suppliers of open operator terminals have established a solid foothold in the Asia Pacific open operator terminal market, representing a significant proportion. In fact, three of the top four suppliers of open operator terminals to the Asia Pacific market are EMEA based and are estimated to account for in excess of 75% of the market. The experience of these companies within the EMEA operator terminals market and their already established reputations have gone someway to changing perceptions in the Asia Pacific region.
