Nuremberg, July 15, 2008 – The GfK Group has expanded its international network further. In the Custom Research sector, GfK has acquired a stake in the UK’s dmrkynetec. The Group has also increased its holding in Chart-Track, UK, and GfK Danmark in Denmark. The formation of GfK Albania adds a new GfK subsidiary to the Group in the Central and East European region.
At the beginning of July, the GfK Group acquired a minority stake of 26% in dmrkynetec, with which the two subsidiaries m2A in France and GfK Animal Health in the UK have been merged. The newly formed company will be headquartered in Guernsey, UK. The dmrkynetec company was created out of the merger of Doane (USA) and kynetec (UK) in 2007 and operates in the field of animal health, agronomic research and phytopathology. In 2007, dmrkynetec, which has a staff complement of 90, recorded sales totaling 18.2 million euros under the leadership of its Managing Director, Stephen Hearn. Major clients include agrarian and biotech companies like Syngenta, Bayer Crop Science, Monsanto Company, Dow Agro Sciences and pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer.
Also at the beginning of July, GfK topped up its existing 9% stake in Chart-Track by a further 46% to expand its international network in the Retail and Technology sector. The company, which is headquartered in London, is among the leading retail data suppliers in the UK and Denmark for games software and in Ireland, it is one of the major music and video sales chart monitors. In 2007, Chart-Track, established in 1996, recorded sales amounting to just under 1.8 million euros with its staff of nine. In future, the company will operate under the name GfK Chart-Track with John Pinder as Managing Director.
With the acquisition of the remaining 13% at the beginning of July, GfK Danmark is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the GfK Group. The company, which is headquartered in Fredriksberg, Copenhagen, is active in all three of GfK’s sectors, with core focus on Fast Moving Consumer Goods and the Healthcare market. Major clients include Coca Cola, cigarette manufacturers Prince, the Carlsberg brewery and Unilever. GfK Danmark was established in 1989 and is currently led by Managing Director Henrik Stender.
At the beginning of July, the GfK Group established GfK Albania, which is based in Tirana. With this, the Group has further consolidated its leading role in Central and Eastern Europe. GfK now has the capability to supply clients with information in a total of 19 countries in the region. The forerunner of GfK Albania, which operates in the Custom Research sector, was the Albanian market research institute, ISO. Major clients include international companies and organizations in the consumer goods industry, telecommunications and the financial services industry. The services provided by the current five members of staff range from qualitative research thru regular multi-topic surveys to customized contract research. The company is led by its Managing Director, Adlej Pici.
