Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but more and more people are taking beauty treatments to the extreme. Case in point: The recent rise in fish pedicures (fish nibbling off dead skin) and leech ‘detoxification treatments’. Botox and lipo almost seem tame in comparison. According to Synovate’s latest global beauty study, 40% of people would change their looks if they could, and nearly one in five would have plastic surgery. While not everyone can be drop dead gorgeous, your culture, gender and self confidence strongly influence how you see yourself. Across all nine countries surveyed, it turns out that South Africans and Indians are the most confident in their looks.
