Survey reveals top purchasing priorities for Malaysians

Dining and entertainment said to be top

Survey done by MasterCard

Dining and entertainment are Malaysian consumers top purchasing priorities for the next six months, according to a recently released MasterCard survey.

The survey found that 76% of respondents indicated dining and entertainment as their top priority, followed by fashion and accessories (38%) and fitness and wellness (37%).

While the top three saving priorities for Malaysians include investment (59%), retirement (52%) and purchasing of property (29%).

"Private consumption is holding up well in the region; and in many markets consumers are either planning to maintain or increase their discretionary spending in the next six months," Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, economic advisor, Asia/Pacific, MasterCard Worldwide said.

"Everything else being equal, the latest findings in consumer purchasing priorities are very positive for a stronger outlook of domestic consumption going forward, in spite of persistent uncertainty in the global economy."

This latest survey was conducted this year from 23 March to 18 April and involved 9,211 consumers from 21 global markets.
