3.2 million more people expect to be financially engaged

The New Year bulletin found 84% of the adult population, an estimated 40.5 million people, expect to save, invest, borrow or repay debt in the next six months, up from an estimated 37.3 million in December 2004. The inclusion of a question on Child Trust Fund intentions has increased the number of people stating that they expect to be financially engaged by some 500,00 adults.

We define the ‘financially active’ as people intending to undertake two or more activities from a list of eighteen. These have increased from an estimated 30.9 million in December 2004 to some 31.8 million in December 2005 with the most financially active (around 16 million adults) expecting to undertake four or more activities.
