Confidence In Job Security Still Affected By Economic Downturn PDF Print E-mail

The effect of the economic slump continues to be felt in terms of people's lack of confidence in their job security.

It might have been hoped that as the initial wave of closures and redundancies passed by people who were left in work would begin to feel more secure but this does not yet seem to be the case. Over a third of people (38%) think that their job is now less safe than it was 12 months ago. This is nearly four times the number of people who think that their job is now safer than it was last year (9%). Concerns are highest amongst those aged 45-64, of whom more than four out of ten (42%) feel that their jobs are less secure than a year before. Only 2% think it is more secure.
