Asia Pacific Displays Strongest Growth for HMI Hardware - 16 March 2006
IMS Research’s latest forecasts on the world market for HMI hardware (operator interfaces) indicate that the market will increase to over US$1.9 billion by 2009, experiencing a CAGR of 6.4%. Previous studies on HMI hardware have shown the EMEA market to be the fastest growing. However, the Asia Pacific market is now projected to experience the strongest increase due to high growth in China & India, coupled with slower growth in Germany, the dominant market within EMEA.
Among the HMI hardware product groups analysed, open HMI hardware will be the fastest growing, experiencing a CAGR of 27.8%. Although the market for this type of product is currently quite small, by 2009 it is expected that open HMIs will be the third largest product group, exceeded in size by only graphic and touchscreen operator panels.
IMS Research senior analyst and report author, Tim Dawson commented: ” Open HMIs enable the user to configure the product to a particular application by accessing the operating system and scaling it to meet their needs. The products are designed to fill the gap between traditional HMI products and full blown industrial PCs, typically offering increased functionality and flexibility over traditional HMIs at a lower cost than industrial PCs.”
Dawson continues: “the growth for open HMI will be influenced by a number of factors. These include increased user awareness resulting from a rise in the number of available products, and the replacement of sales of both traditional HMI with embedded operating systems and lower level industrial PCs.. Some new applications for open HMI will also be created to further contribute to growth”.
