New MRS training programme gives researchers the edge

A new range of training programmes focused on helping researchers at all levels broaden their business and leadership skills has been unveiled by MRS.

Due for launch in September, the MRS Learning & Development Programme incorporates courses previously offered by the British Market Research Association (BMRA) – including Turning Data into Action and Delivering Presentations for Maximum Impact – and has been extended to offer researchers from both client- and agency-side more development opportunities.

Divided into three strands – Research Skills, Business Skills and Leadership Skills – the new programme is designed to offer learning opportunities for researchers at all stages in their career.  The Leadership Skills strand is designed to help senior level executives maximise the performance of themselves and their teams.   This programme brings together four one-day courses – in Mentoring Skills, Advanced Client Relationships, Essential Skills in People Management and Skills for Effective Leadership – to help in the professional development of senior researchers beyond the core research skills.

The Business Skills strand will run  in a similar way – incorporating one-day courses such as Winning New Clients and Internal Auditing,  which together help researchers enhance their broader business expertise and consultancy skills.  Both this and the Leadership Skills elements of the programme are built on a combination of existing MRS and BMRA courses, with some new additions, to offer participants a broader range of development options.

In line with the evolution of online communications within the research industry, the new programme also offers a wider range of online learning courses than ever before.  These run alongside the one-day courses and in-company programmes offered by MRS – providing a range of options for businesses and individuals and ensuring programmes can be tailored to different requirements.

Barbara Deutschle, MRS training programme manager, comments: “MRS has long been at the forefront of professional development for the market research sector, providing a unique range of training and development opportunities - but from September, we’re going to be even better!  By integrating some of the BMRA courses and offering a broader programme that enhance researchers’ business skills, we can meet the needs of those looking beyond the core research competencies – and ensure clients get a higher level of expertise.“

The new programme coincides with the opening of the MRS new training suite in Clerkenwell, London.  The facility, which has opened this summer, comprises a state-of-the-art presentation room, breakout areas and on-site access to the full range of MRS services – ensuring participants in MRS courses receive the very best in 21st-century learning experience.
