Top 10 global retailers in 2006, by  Euromonitor International

Walgreen and Seven & I Holdings the rising stars in the top 10 global retail ranking.

Walgreen set to enter at 8th place
In the wake of robust growth in the US health & beauty retailing channel, Euromonitor International's research shows Walgreen bursting into the top 10, jumping a massive four places from 12th to 8th position, in the characteristically static retail rankings. This rapid movement is as a result of an aggressive expansion policy leading to many new stores openings across the US.

Seven & I Holdings continues rising within the top five
Seven and I Holdings is to overtake Kroger, jumping into 4th place helped by strong gains in Hong Kong and Taiwan. In Taiwan, the company was able to cement its leadership thanks to innovative marketing and the successful development of its ready meals products through 7-Eleven convenience stores.
