SKOPOS CASE STUDY: German Gym Reputations Not Fit For Purpose? SKOPOS recently conducted a representative online survey (1,002 respondents) in Germany. We clearly identified that the reputation of fitness centres varies greatly amongst age groups.
In general, gyms are quite trendy in Germany. 60% of all respondents could name an average of one to two fitness centres. McFit ranks far ahead others gyms when it comes to general awareness; nearly 49% of respondents are familiar with McFit.
The Fitness Company (now known as Fitness First) came in second with about 13% and The Jaws Studios came in third with 11%. Fitness First, the new name for The Fitness Company in Germany, was mentioned by only 3% of the respondents.
Elixia and Injoy (4%) were less popular than the “well known winners."
If we refine the results by gender and age, Elixia, achieved a high profile especially among female respondents, while the male respondents were more aware of McFit. The Fitness Company achieved similar awareness levels across both male and female respondents.
Elixia was most popular amongst the younger respondents groups aged 18 to 44.
McFit however, achieved equal levels (32%) of awareness among two very distinct age groups: The 18 – 24 and the over 55’s.
The “up – to – 35’s” were more aware of Fitness Company / Fitness First while the over 55’s with local studios in their area.
Put simply, certain Gym brands need to exercise more efficiently and flex their muscles.
