Recent terrorist plot and arrests not affecting travel plans WIMBLEDON, London --- August 16, 2006 --- A survey by Lightspeed Research, an online market research solutions provider, revealed that an overwhelming number of travelers felt that the recent suspected terrorist plot at Heathrow airport would not affect their travel plans. The poll, which ran in 9 countries around the world, asked respondents to state how the recent suspected terrorist plot at London’s Heathrow airport would affect their travel plans. In total 78% of the 35,586 respondents stated that it would have no effect on their plans to travel. While the majority felt it would have no effect, 15% stated that they would travel less for leisure, while 5% would cancel their travel plans altogether. Business travel seemed to be least affected with only a mere 1% of respondents stating they would travel less on business. The Poll was conducted in the US, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Australia among 35,586 respondents in August 2006. Italian respondents felt the most affected - with 21% stating they would travel less for leisure and 8% stating they would cancel all their upcoming travel plans. The two countries’ travel plans that appear to be the least affected by the alerts are the Netherlands (92%) and the UK (88%).
