I am a lone researcher for a construction consultancy and I have no formal research training. I produce reports into the markets in which we work in order to support the Business Development side of the company. For example, a typical title may be, Should we open an office in
Sheffield? Or What major business opportunities are there in the Pharmaceutical industry? I am untrained, and under-resourced (this is all done using the internet).
What skills could I learn to improve the research? It doesn't seem to fall into the typical 'Market Research' bracket in terms of producing questionnaires etc and is therefore not really Qualitative or Quantitative. Are there courses that would train me in this type of research?
Also, if I wanted to move into more traditional 'Market Research', how would I go about it? My degree (8 years ago now) was in Pharmacology. Would I be able to start working in an agency, for example, and get some training at the same time?
Any comments would be very helpful.
